Putting Americans Last

P

I can understand voting against a $2000 check for most Americans on the grounds of fiscal prudence, though I would have voted the other way. What I cannot understand is voting against money for ordinary Americans while also voting for the bloated defense budget, with billions for special interests, including favored foreign causes that do nothing for Americans. That is the very opposite of putting America and Americans first, and that is where far too many congressional Republicans have put themselves.

  • In the America of even thirty years ago, I would have opposed the idea. Now, however, the conservative arguments of the second half of the 20th century are largely obsolete. They were rendered that way by the GWB Administration and its successor, along with almost all of Congress and the punditocracy – Right and Left. Third World America (and yes, I generalize) has no regard for such noble concepts as limited, Constitutional government. Simply put, it wants to grab as much of the remaining wealth of the historic America as it can, while the political class steals as much for itself as possible and distributes the rest to its donors and clients here and abroad. The whole criminal enterprise cannot go on indefinitely; the debt bubble will eventually collapse the whole rotten edifice. In the meantime, the fight over the carcass that is what is left of America will become more savage. I will fight for low taxes on the middle class, but will not tell people to reject benefits that will just go to someone else, probably less deserving, anyway. If and when we get our own country again, we can try to cultivate economic independence, free markets and limited government. Dependence on government handouts is debilitating and has helped bring us to where we are right now, but trying to win on this platform in the political arena right now is impossible and self-defeating.
